Materials Consumption:
10 m/role without overlapping.
Application:
The installation temperature should be between 5oC to 55oC. Application procedures may vary depending on the condition of the site. The general recommended guidelines for the application of waterproofing systems are as follows:
Surface Preparation
All contaminants, such as dust, traces of healing compounds, oils, and greases, will be thoroughly cleaned. All surface imperfections, protrusions, and structurally unsound and feeble concrete need to be removed and repaired with suitable concrete repair mortar.
Priming
Apply D-Shield Prime (solvent-based primer) at 4-6 m2/kg on a clean, smooth, and dry surface by brush, roller, or spray. Allow the primer to dry before applying the membrane. As the viscosity of the primer is low, it easily penetrates into the pores of the concrete, which promotes adhesion between the membrane and thus the surface of the concrete. In addition, the primer also acts as a binder for dust particles that accumulate on the concrete surface even after cleaning.
Alignment
Start the installation of all membrane pliers from the lower point or drain; therefore, the water flow should be parallel to the pliers but never against the column. All overlaps at the membrane shall be installed so as to have up-slope laps over the down-slope laps. Start the membrane application by unlocking the roll of the D-Shield 3 membrane and aligning the side laps. Re-roll half the roll and position it in the open part to prevent shifting. The side overlaps should be a minimum of 100 mm, and therefore the last overlap should be 150 mm.
Torching
D-Shield 3 membranes are installed by employing a cylinder-fed propane gas torch. The use of a hand-held ceiling torch is recommended, as it provides honest control. If multiple burner torching machines are used, care must be taken to ensure uniform heat application and to avoid overheating of the membrane. Start torching the embossed polythene side of the rolled part of the membrane. The appropriate torching technique involves applying the torch flame by applying about 75 percent of the heat across the coiled part of the roll and 25 percent through the substrate, calculating the lap area of the previously installed membrane. As the membrane heats up the embossing begins to melt away, revealing a shiny bitumen surface. Roll the membrane forward and press firmly with a boot or roller against a good-binding substrate. The propane flame should move from side to side and to the edge of the collar, while the membrane will be gently sealed and attached to the underlying surface. Subsequent transfer of the roll after the start of heating will be avoided. Once completed, the remaining un-torched membrane will be re-rolled and fixed in the same manner. When one end is complete, re-roll the other end without a torch yet and install it in the same manner. As a result, as the rolls become stable, high-temperature rolls and membrane open laps are applied in both cases.
Warning:
Do not touch too much on the membrane, as it may reveal its strength and damage it.
Up Stand
Flashing details are accomplished using cut pieces of D-Shield 3 membrane with appropriate prefabricated flashing components. The same side lap and end lap rules apply to flashing details related to field membranes. All positions and supports should be waterproofed with extra care to ensure all ties. A suitable flashing membrane (mineral surface membrane) will be lapped with the bottom membrane, the surface of the part wall will be brought in and the concrete will be cut into a groove by digging. The grooves will be sealed with a suitable and quality mastic sealant.
Ceiling
Heat both overlaps and use a round-tipped trowel to seal the overlap. Tolerable heat is ensured when a constant flow of molten bitumen compound is applied and light flows from the edges of the membrane-like blown putty. The excess mixture should be heated slowly and pressed into the seam by employing a heated trowel. It must be any unregistered territory lift and re-ignite. Do not plan to reconsider by torching the highest surface of the membrane.
